Event Description

Award-winning author Lia Hills' novels have been published and translated around the world to critical acclaim, and nominated for numerous awards, including the New Zealand Book Awards and the Miles Franklin Literary Award. Rich in detail of the land and its nonhuman inhabitants, her newest novel The Desert Knows Her Name is the story of a girl who walks out of a Wimmera desert, barefoot and unable to speak. The arrival of the mysterious ‘desert girl’ unsettles the community and old tensions erupt, leading to the revelation of a terrible crime.

While researching the novel, Lia travelled regularly to the Wimmera, where she consulted with the First Nations community, regenerative farmers, plant and bird experts, artists and historical societies. Join us as Lia shares her writing journey in conversation with Emma, Mooroolbark Team Leader.

Book sales and signing will be available on the day.
