Event Description

Santilla Chingaipe is a Zambian-born filmmaker, historian and author, whose work explores settler colonialism, slavery, and contemporary migration in Australia.

Santilla's first book of non-fiction, Black Convicts, explores the story of Australia’s Black convicts which have been all but erased from our history. In this deeply researched and illuminating book, she offers a fresh understanding of this fatal shore, showing how empire, slavery, race and memory have shaped this nation.

Join us at Croydon Library to hear Santilla in conversation, as she discusses the research and stories behind this book.
