Event Description

Let’s write some brand-new poems together in an international tour of poem-forms that you’ve probably never heard of! As an experienced poetry educator, I’m totally sick of all the traditional types of poems that get taught in schools, sure they’re fine, but I’m convinced we need new ways to create and compose, thus I’ve been researching some of the lesser known forms of poems from around the world. Forget the haiku, lets write some other Japanese poem-forms, like the Gogyohka or Haynaku. Forget the limerick, let’s try other funny poem-forms, like the Grook from Belgium or the Chatushka from Russia. Forget acrostics, let’s write some Gzhas from Tibet or Landays from Afghanistan. Maybe we’ll finish off by writing a knittelvers from Germany or a pathya vat from Cambodia! All these poem-forms are short and not hard to learn or write, so come and discover some of these different poem-forms from around the world and have fun writing a whole lot of little poems!
