Join author, psychologist and journalist Denny Meek as she shares her award-winning book, Still Standing - A Mother's Journey From The Shadows of Loss to the Dawning of Hope.
In this moving book, drawn from personal experience, Denny aims to raise awareness on key issues - domestic violence, infant loss, anorexia nervosa, teen suicide and grief and address the stigmas around suffering, by talking about them, the devastation and the journey through them, openly.
Denny feels a 'legacy of shame, secrecy and silence' overshadows those bereaved, especially by suicide, and that leaving these taboo subjects undiscussed, helps perpetuate their stigmas.
'Still Standing' is currently being used in lectures at three Australian universities to inform undergraduate and post-graduate students in health sciences, social work, psychology, education and nursing and is required reading in Charles Sturt University's social work degree.
Books will be available for cash sales on the night.
Attendees are welcome to help themselves to tea and coffee.
