Event Description

In 1920 there were over 16,000 WWI Australian soldiers still listed as missing.
Vera Deakin, daughter of Prime Minister Alfred Deakin, became founding secretary of the Australian Red Cross Wounded & Missing Enquiry Bureau in Cairo and later London. She bypassed the Australian government’s restriction on women’s service during World War One and showed outstanding leadership in organizing her volunteer team to answer the thousands of enquiries from deeply distressed relatives back home.

Join author Carole Woods OAM for a fascinating look at Vera Deakin & her incredible work with the Red Cross.
Carole is a Fellow, and honorary secretary, of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, and author of 'Vera Deakin and the Red Cross' .

Remembrance Day ceremony to follow at 11am.
